Mobile games → travel PWAs → Android platform → engineering leadership. Each step compounded into the next.

  1. Director, Wego Engineering R&D Hub

    Hybrid 80% engineering / 20% operations
    • Built and scaled Wego's Engineering R&D Hub from zero — hiring, vendor & ops setup, legal entity — to 30+ engineers across mobile, web, infra, and data analytics.
    • Led the Google Engage SDK partnership — a 6-month direct collaboration with Google to launch a new Travel category on Google Play. Featured at Google I/O 2025.
    • Owned mobile platform direction across Android (Kotlin, Dagger 2, multi-module, Jetpack) and iOS (Swift, UIKit).
    • Shipped ShopCash end-to-end in React Native with a 3-engineer team in ~2 months, later re-architected as an embedded MiniApp inside the flagship apps.
    • Drove local market partnerships — GoLootlo (cashback & e-commerce), Meezan Bank (Islamic banking), and regional airlines — wiring wallets, deals, and native payment rails into the Wego apps.
    • Championed AI-assisted engineering workflows across the team — LLM agents, RAG, and AI coding tools — and shipped a customer-facing AI travel assistant that turns natural-language queries into in-app actions.
    • Wego launched its first retail travel agency outlet (Jul 2025).
    • Stood up VOIP in-app calling (native Kotlin + Janus/SIP + Cloudflare TURN) — free WebRTC calls replacing paid operator phone funnels for customer support.
  2. Lead Engineer, Android

    • Led Android engineering for Wego's flagship travel app — 83M+ cumulative downloads, millions of MAU, 4.4★+ rating. #1 on Android among all OTAs in MENA.
    • Architected a 30+ module codebase with strict feature isolation, shared core libs, and platform-specific variants.
    • Built a GMS/HMS abstraction enabling build-time swap between Google and Huawei Mobile Services — one codebase, two SDK stacks.
    • Three preload partnerships — Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi (incl. Android GO memory-optimised single-APK build), Aurora (Russian Android fork).
    • Implemented Jetpack Baseline Profiles, zero-tolerance Detekt gates, and a Fastlane-driven 6-app-store release pipeline.
    • Authored Wego's in-house Android A/B testing framework used across the flagship app.

    • Led the Polymer 2.0 → 3.0 migration; built core Web Components in-house (router, state, i18n, RTL).
    • Integrated Arabic / RTL across PWA and Android — full bidirectional support across booking flows.

    • Shipped on Disney / Marvel 'Big Hero 6 Bot Fight' (Unity3D) — the studio's first Disney-partnered mobile title.
